The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) was
formally established by the National Science
Development Board (NSDB) on January 03, 1967, as an
agency to undertake the Textile Research Program. In
1974, by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1, PTRI
became a regular agency of NSDB. On June 26, 1981,
PTRI was transferred to the Ministry of Industry for
purposes of policy and program coordination as
prescribed under executive Order No. 700.
Then
on January 30, 1987, Executive Order No. 128
reorganized the National Science and Technology
Authority (NSTA) and provided among others, the
return of PTRI to the NSTA now the Department of
Science and Technology.
The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), a
line agency of the Department of Science and
Technology is mandated through Executive Order No.
128 dated January 30, 1987 to
perform the following functions:
Conduct
applied research and development for the textile
industry
Undertake
the transfer of completed researches to
end-users or via linkage units of other
government agencies
PTRI
in its highly specialized function will support the
Philippine garment and textile industry in achieving
global excellence through science and technology
that will provide for the attainment of:
World
niche for Philippine textile products through
judicious utilization of fibrous materials
and auxiliaries from indigenous resources.
High
levels of productivity of world-class quality
products with the development of technical
competence in textile production and quality
assurance.
We, in the PTRI, nurture in our hearts the vision to
achieve global excellence of the Philippine textile
industry through science and technology that provide
for:
the
development of high technical expertise and
skills of its resources;
the
attainment of self-sufficiency in textile raw
materials and auxiliaries from indigenous
resources;
the
development and application of superior
processing technologies;
that
will contribute effectively in the enhancement of
productivity, quality and cost competitive textile
products for the local and foreign markets.
