A flower is, indeed, a universal enchantress,
transcending time, culture, gender, and space. In some
plants, the once colored petals simply wither and fade.
In some rare instances, they turn green and become one
of the leaves. However, in a tiny province in Cagayan
Valley, the entropy-forbidden transformation from leaves
to petals does not only seem to be a rare phenomenon but
also a lucrative one. There, the leaves of one plant can
become the flowers of another!
 Quirino is a
small province situated along the eastern coastline of
Luzon almost 450 kilometers north of Manila. The people
are predominantly Iloko-speaking, living up to its name
after the first Ilocano President, Elpidio Quirino. It
is an emerging tourism frontier of Region II. It is the
haven of crystal clear waters and rapids and a
delightfully green surrounding. It is a paradise in the
heart of the statuesque mountains.
Among its six
towns, agriculture is the main source of livelihood
although small-scale industries are likewise prevalent.
Fossilized flower making is one of its major earners and
a tourism ace as well. |
