Quantum Leap
In
the advent of the convergence, there is
absolutely no scientific approach to production. There
is no concept of color recipe or standard procedure as
well. The importance of having a scientific measurement
was highlighted during the seminars to usher them into a
tradition of accuracy and precision. If only weighing
and measuring the volume or weight of dyes, chemicals,
and reagents are put into practice, it will instill a
culture which is the cornerstone of reproducible colors
and repeatable results requisite to confidence in
accepting larger volume of orders.
Sustainable development advocates parallel attention
devoted to the rigors of production and the maintenance
of a stable supply of raw materials. PTRI technologies
address the technical aspect. The raw material resource,
however, is left unattended. Manang Doray recalls
how the leaves which they needed could be easily sourced
in the wild. However, as a trade-off of the increasing
number of producers who would need these leaves and
twigs, sooner or later it would be depleted. In fact,
some of them even get their supply of alibangbang leaves
from the adjacent province of Nueva Vizcaya. Thus,
launching a program that would cater to the preservation
of the continuous supply of their raw materials would be
a proactive move.
To
federate small and individual producers, it would be
able to satisfy big orders which they could hardly do
individually. Such synergy could also set the price
range of their products, thereby mutually securing the
market value. This group could also ensure standards in
order to maintain the quality of all flowers that come
from Quirino. A primordial common service facility setup
would then naturally follow as it could also defray
capital outlay on the acquisition of tools that
individual producers could not afford. Tools that
include measuring devices and bigger dyeing vessels
would be very indispensable to support the technologies
transferred for larger production.
Although the craft has already gained synonymity with
the province, the technology is very simple that it can
easily be copied and duplicated. They would have to face
the threat of a potential competitor squarely. What best
preparation would be needed than strict adherence to
scientifically upgraded environment-friendly processes
providing superior quality crafts and transcending the
boundaries of conventional fossilized flower designs and
arrangements. Thus, urging them to pursue natural dyeing
would also provide an undeniable edge. It would be the
tripod of the Quirino enchantress as these
cosmopolitan flowers enchant the rest of the world. |
