As
the center for textile research and development, the
Institute provides for the collection, organization, storage
and retrieval of textiles and textile-related information.
Its Technical Library contains a sizeable number of general
references, books, foreign and local periodicals on this
specialized field.
The
bi-monthly publication and dissemination of print materials
entitled: Textile Developments continuously
inform the textile and garment industries, related
government agencies, libraries and organizations with
up-to-date technical information on local and international
developments on textile processes, raw materials, product
technology, fashion trends, etc. for the production of high
quality products for domestic and export markets.
The
development of computer-based bibliographic databases using
CDS/ISIS software provided for fast and easy retrieval of
information that will be responsive to the needs of the
researchers. ARTIC Database consists of indexed periodical
articles available in the PTRI Technical Library. TEX1
Database consists of directory of mills and garment
manufacturers. It also maintains the OPAC-Online Public
Access Catalog of ScINET-PHIL which consists of
bibliographic catalog and abstracts of books readily
available for references.
The
establishment of the PTRI Local Area Network and Internet
connection in February 1997 facilitated the sharing of and
access to information and the transfer of files. It also
improved communication through the use of electronic mail
and was able to explore the World Wide Web for searching and
retrieving the resources needed to support the research
requirements of the information users.
