Gampol Book
Gampol:
A Compendium of Philippine Dye-Yielding Plants and their
Textile Application is the newest publication of the
Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Ayala
Foundation Inc. (AFI). The word gampol is an Ilocano word
which means, "dye of dark tan from certain tree
bark." Laarni P. Habal, researcher from PTRI and Mrs.
Zenaida de Guzman, the Chief of the Research and Development
Division of PTRI, authored this 92-page book showcasing
35-dye yielding plants in the Philippines. Some of the plant
sources featured in the book include talisay leaves, young
buko husks, bunga and gumamela flower. The book also
contains photographs of the plants together with some
taxonomical information of the dye sources and the colors
they produce.
Gampol features the revival of the natural dye interest and
research in the Philippines. It showcases the packaged
matured technology of natural dyeing for the benefit of
small and medium enterprises (SME's) engaged in weaving,
textiles and fiber-based handicrafts.
Gampol costs P200.00 and is available at the PTRI, DOST,
Bicutan, Taguig City, Philippines or at the Ayala Museum. For
further inquiries please call 632-837-1349.
