PTRI
boosts
service delivery capability
Two
Technology Centers are now operational in La Trinidad, Benguet
and Kalingagan, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.
These Centers, formerly the Philippine Textile Research
Institute's sericulture stations concerned mainly in
Sericulture Technology and Silk Industry Program have been
expanded to handle also other PTRI programs, projects and
services.
A move deemed vital by Dr. Carlos C. Tomboc, PTRI's Director
to make the Institute more responsive to the needs of the
bureaucracy and the industry.
The Center in Misamis Oriental will service the whole of
Mindanao and part of the Visayas and the center in Benguet
will service the Northern and part of Central Luzon.
Zita l. Sanchez and Paul M. Bacuso were designated as
Officer-in-Charge of Misamis Oriental and Benguet
respectively.
Likewise, two units were also created in the office of the
Director Tomboc to strengthen PTRI's service delivery
capability. These are the Planning and Information
Management Staff (PIMS) and the Technology Transfer and
Promotion Staff (TTPS).
The main functions of Planning and Information Management
include evaluation of projects and integrates them into plans
and programs of the Institute, designs and implements an
effective monitoring system, gathers scientific and
statistical data for use in planning and programming work,
prepares reports on the projects and technical activities of
the Institute and establishes linkages with scientific
institutions and other science based organizations for wider S
& T outreach.
On the other hand, Technology Transfer and Promotion plans and
implements programs, projects and activities for the efficient
and effective packaging and transfer of matured and related
technologies; and for this purpose, establishes linkages with
mass media, scientific institutions and disseminates S & T
information through available channels to reach various target
clienteles.
Dr. Carlos C. Tomboc, director, said that the creation of the
two staff units is part of the institutional building which he
initiated upon his assumption to office in January last year.
Earlier, Director Tomboc instituted three policy directions
for PTRI under his leadership, namely: unified management
system; complementation and integration of programs, projects
and activities; and relevance of PTRI to the bureaucracy and
industry.
