The
analysis and evaluation of textile raw materials and
finished products form an integral part of the services of
PTRI to its various clientele. These services are
being rendered for quality control purposes, conformance to
specification, investigation of faults including arbitration
and research and development.

PTRI
laboratories are equipped with sophisticated testing
equipment manned by competent staff capable of
undertaking different physical and chemical tests to
determine levels of quality of fibers, yarns, fabrics,
garments and allied products including dyes, chemicals
and auxiliaries used in textile production.

Tests
are carried out in accordance with PNS standards,
foreign and international standards/ methods such as
ISO, ASTM, AATCC, JIS, BS and IWS. Test methods
supplied/specified by clients are also considered.

PTRI
renders technical assistance on the
selection/procurement of textile materials for uniform
to various institutions to maximize use of resources.
Properties of textile materials like strength,
dimensional stability, fabric appearance (pilling),
colorfastness to laundering, crocking, perspiration and
light are tested and evaluated to check whether they
conform to required performance specifications.

PTRI
provides technical assistance through testing and
evaluation of appropriate fabric materials for
institutional use. Characteristics such as fiber
composition, fabric construction and performance
behavior are tested and evaluated against standard set
of requirements.

PTRI
is the official testing laboratory of the International
Wool Secretariat (IWS). It has linkage with the United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for
interlaboratory check test activities.
