Project #1: Color Profiling of Natural Dyes from the Established NatDyes Prodcution and Dyeing Facilities for the Development of Natural Dyes Color System- Phase 1

Objectives:
General
To develop a color profile of natural dyes present in the NatDyes production hubs in Abra,Mindoro, and Lake sebu.
Specific
1. To profile the available natural dye yielding plants;
2. To extract and apply natural dyes on to abaca,silk,pineapple, and cotton fabrics;
3. To characterize/evaluate the colorimetric properties of naturally dyed fabrics;

Expected Output:

  • Database of dye-yielding plants available in the hubs in Abra,Mindoro, and Lake sebu
  • Color profile of natural dyed fabrics
  • Technical paper for publication

Project #2: Exhaust Natural Dyeing of Indigenous Fabrics from Selected Philippine Plant Dye Sources - Year 2

Objectives:
General
To establish the dye bath exhaustion of different indigenous fabrics from 10 established priority plant dye spectrophotometric analysis
Specific
1) To Optimize the conditions of the exhaust natural dyeing of different indigenous fabrics(cotton,abaca,pineapple,pina seda,silk and indigenous blended fabrics) for the 10 plant dye sources
2) To evaluate the color strength value and exhaustion % of the dyed fabrics and compared with existing methods
3. To evaluate performance of the dyed fabrics in terms of its colorfastness properties

Expected Output:

  • Technology on the exhaustion in natural dyeing of indigenous fabrics using 10 established priority plant dye sources
  • IP application (UM process claim)
  • Technical paper for publication

Project #3: Modified Pre-Treatment of Indigenous Fibers for Textile Application

Objectives:
General
To develop a modified fiber pretreatment technology to improve the overall physico-mechanical properties of indigenous fiber blended yarns
Specific
1) To optimize the paramaters in the acid prehydrolysis treatment of indigenous fibers
2) To evaluate the synergistic effect of acid prehydrolysis with the sequential chemical,mechanical and enzymatic pretreatment process
3. To evaluate chemo-physical properties of fibers and yarns subjected to the modified pretreatment process

Expected Output:

  • Modified pretreatment technology
  • Utility model
  • Technical paper for publication

Project #4: Pilot Scale verification/Validation of Pretreatment of Bamboo Fiber

Objectives:
General
To Verify the pretreatment process of bamboo fiber on a pilot-scale level
Specific
1) To conduct pilot scale verification of fiber extraction for bamboo fiber
2) To conduct pilot scale verification of the pretreatment of bamboo fiber
3) To validate the spinning performance of the bamboo blended yarn
4. To develop prototype of fabric from bamboo blended yarns

Expected Output:

  • Verified/Validated fiber extraction of bamboo fiber in pilot scale
  • Verified/Validated pretreatment of bamboo fiber in pilot scale
  • Bamboo yarns with blend of cotton or polyester fibers
  • Data on yarn and fabric properties for bamboo fiber
  • Cost analysis of the process and product
  • Technical paper or IP

Project #5: Development of Indigenous Fiber-Based Yarn with Higher Blends Using Worsted Spinning System

Objectives:
General
To develop an indigenous fiber based yarns with higher blends using the worsted system of spinning for textile application
Specific
1) To develop yarns containing higher blends of pineapple,abaca and banana fibers using the worsted or long staple spinning system
2) To verify and validate appropriate spinning system for the three (3) indigenous fibers
3) To develop a fabric from the high indigenous fiber blended yarns
4) To determine physico-chemical properties of yarns and fabrics containing higher indigenous fibers

Expected Output:

  • More than 30% indigenous fiber containing yarns
  • Terminal report
  • Semi-technical paper

Project #6: Revitalization of Silk Industry in Northern Mindanao - Year 3

Objectives:
General
To produce semi-commercial scale raw silk yarns from PTRI commercial hybrids
Specific
1) To evaluate the feeding capacity of 1-hectare fully established mulberry areas on a monthly rearing cycle.
2) To generate the larval,cocoon and raw silk properties of the 8 newly established silkworm hybrids.
3) To establish an economic data analysis on the semi-commercial cocoon

Expected Output:

  • Silkworm rearing and cocoon production
  • Raw Silk processing
  • Evaluated feeding capacity of 1 hectare
  • Data on larval,cocoon and raw silk properties

Project #7: Anti-Static Finishing Technology for silk and Poly-Blended Indigenous Textiles

Objectives:
General
To develop a finishing technology using polymeric materials for anti-static property of natural fiber-blended
Specific
1) To optimize anti-static finishing formulation using polymeric materials
2) To optimize the finishing conditions for application on silk and poly-blended indigenous textiles
3) To charactize/evaluate the antistatic property of finished on silk and poly-blended indigenous textiles
4) To evaluate the durability of the developed finishing technology

Expected Output:

  • Anti-static finishing formulation
  • Method for anti-static finishing of natural fiber-blended materials
  • IP application(UM process claim)
  • Technical paper for publication
