Physical and Chemical Testing

The Institute has a laboratory that is equipped with modern instruments capable of undertaking different physical and chemical tests to determine the level of quality of yarns, fibers, fabrics, auxiliaries, chemicals and dyestuffs used in textile production.

Textile Standards Formulation

This is in coordination with DTI's Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) which aims to promote the national adoption of standards for locally produced textiles to protect consumer rights.

Textile Processing Services

Processing evaluation for the optimum utilization of textile raw materials such as the continuous dyeing of blends of cotton/polyester fabrics; processability of locally available fiber by the local spinning system; and fabric manufacturing through handloom weaving are being done at the Institute's pilot plant. The technical assistance to handloom weavers includes the utilization of new and varied end-products for the domestic and foreign markets.

Information and Library Services

The Institute provides documentation and information dissemination services to textile millers, researchers, scientists, technologists, students, entrepreneurs and the general public. It has a library that contains a sizeable number of basic references, books, foreign and local journals, periodicals and ephemeral literature materials on textiles and related subjects.

Manpower Development and Skills Training

Cognizant of the Industry's lack in skilled manpower, PTRI has established a system of providing technical training to the textile industry sector and allied cottage, small and medium-scale industries, entrepreneurs and the unemployed that will ensure reliable and efficient work performance, production and increase employment. The PTRI extends technical support and expert assistance on manpower and skills development programs of DOST, DTI and other government agencies for countryside development.

Educational Tours/Visits/Viewing of Exhibits

As part of PTRI's efforts of building up science and technology consciousness among the citizenry, which DOST considers a vital in contributing towards the orientation of a science career specially for the younger generation, PTRI conducts guided tours to PTRI laboratory, pilot plant facilities and exhibits.
