The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) spearheads the Filipino Footwear Forum and hosts a Technical Committee meeting specialized for the footwear industry. This pioneering initiative aims to convene key stakeholders from government, academe, and industry to discuss current events in the footwear sector, identify gaps and opportunities for strategic innovation, and align efforts to advance the Philippine footwear industry.

In a continuing effort to revive the Subanen textile heritage, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) held a strategic meeting with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lapuyan to advance collaborative plans for the revitalization of the Subanen weaving industry.

"We learn from traditional knowledge systems, from culture, and from heritage. From these roots, we rise and develop a renewed and refined vision of Subanen weaving, perhaps even a distinct identity for Zamboanga Sibugay weaving that reflects and conveys our culture, our shared aspirations, and our collective destiny. We redefine the use of textiles, but as long as we continue to use, patronize, and promote Philippine textiles, it will never be lost."

At the project launch and turnover ceremony of Suba-Weave Handlooms, DOST-PTRI Director Julius Leano highlighted the growing potential of Subanen weaving and Zamboanga’s local resources in strengthening the textile production industry.

The DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) welcomes the delegates from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment, and Tourism - BARMM (MTIT-BARMM) and the Ministry of Science and Technology - BARMM (MOST-BARMM) to its facilities to advance discussions on cultivating the textile industry in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
