DOST-PTRI Receives New Contact Angle Analyzer donated by Surface Electro Optics (SEO) Co. Ltd. Korea

Korea, for his generosity in donating one unit of Phoenix 150 (P150) Contact Angle Analyzer in support of the Institute's testing services and research and development activities. Engr. May S. Rico presented the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of DOST-PTRI Director Celia B. Elumba.

KoreaDonation of the equipment was made possible through the support and endorsement of Professor Young-ho Kim of Hankyong National University (HKNU) Department of Chemical Engineering. He is the thesis advisor of one of TSD Chemical Testing Laboratory analysts, Ms. Shyne D. Galapon.
Ms. Galapon graduated in 2019, with honors from HKNU with a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering under the KOICA-HKNU Scholarship program.
Mr. Jangho Park shared his decades of experience in surface chemistry to eager testing and research personnel who participated in the training on principles of contact angle and surface tension analyses. Included in this training is a demonstration of the operation of the equipment. Also present are Mr. Jimmy, and Joseph Villarba from SEO company's local partner, Javitech.
Dr. Young-ho Kim had a separate visit and gave a lecture on the applications of contact angle analyzer, which is currently housed in DOST-PTRI Smart Textiles Laboratory.
DOST-PTRI testing and research personnel with Prof. Young-ho Kim of HKNUA contact angle analyzer is a tool used to analyze the interaction between a solid and liquid material. Example of which is the wettability of a solid material like textiles. It finds relevance in the Smart Textiles R&D Projects of DOST-PTRI such as the development of water-repellent finishing technology for natural textiles.
