DOST-PTRI and HKRITA Strengthen Ties for Sustainable Textile Innovations
The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is strengthening its partnership with the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA).

Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 7, 2023, DOST-PTR visited HKRITA to discuss specific points of collaboration. In a technical meeting, HKRITA shared insights into its latest textile advancements, many of which are ready for commercialization and industry adoption.
DOST-PTRI, meanwhile, presented its ongoing initiatives, particularly those aligned with sustainable textiles and textile upcycling. Areas of mutual interest were identified, including research opportunities under DOST-PTRI’s Textile Revitalized (TexRev) Program and the development of closed-loop textile solutions.
The Institute also participated in various activities organized by HKRITA, including facility visits and an Innovation and Technology Symposium at Hong Kong Polytechnic University last September 2024. These engagements further highlighted Hong Kong’s progress in sustainable textiles, driven by strong government and private sector collaboration, and opened new avenues for joint research and development initiatives between the two institutions.
Both organizations are committed to building a strong partnership that will drive innovation and sustainability in the textile sector, with collaborative projects expected to create meaningful impact in the years ahead.
