In celebration of Intellectual Property Month, we emphasize the important role of copyright in protecting both creativity and identity. Under Republic Act No. 8293, known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, copyright law ensures legal protection for original works of literature and art, granting creators exclusive control over their creations.

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) joined the exhibit at the 2025 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) in Cebu, aligning with the event’s theme, Blue Economy.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism - Regional Office for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MTIT-BARMM) held an Innovation Dialogue at the TELA Gallery, DOST-PTRI on April 23, 2025. The event focused on Mapping, Scoping and Profiling BARMM Textiles Towards Developing Textile Inclusive Innovation Ecosystem in BARMM.

In observance of Intellectual Property Month, we highlight the value of marks in protecting creativity and identity. As stated in RA 8293, Section 121.1, a mark refers to any visible sign that helps recognize a product or service in the market. This includes logos, packaging, or any symbol linked to a brand, forming the legal basis for trademark protection in the Philippines.
